Janus built its factory at Espeland outside Bergen in 1895 and has continued to produce high-quality wool products at the same site ever since. The “Espeland Waterfall” provided the energy needed to industrialize wool manufacturing, and to date the factory operates on renewable Hydro power. Many of the old buildings, including its own railway station, have been restored and is currently used as museum or for cultural activities.
Janus produces base layer for men, women, and kids, as well as pure wool apparel for newborns and toddlers. Norway is the biggest market, followed by the other Nordic countries.
Janus will handle the wool production for all brands in the Monte Rosa Sport group and has already taken over most of ODLO’s wool production – moving it from external sites in Portugal and China.
Wool is a fantastic natural material that is nature’s own way of providing apparel for high-performance, in all weather conditions. Janus continues to innovate and find new versions of its classic wool fabric to be used by our customers from they are born and throughout their active life.
